Steve Brigman was not yet 10 years old when his father helped him onto a plank in the fork of a tree and handed up his single-shot .410. Since then, Steve has logged more than 40 seasons hunting deer with a bow, rifle and muzzleloader. Most of Steve's experience comes from the deer-rich Texas Hill Country, but he has also hunted white-tails in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Virginia, Alabama, and of course Missouri. For more than a decade he made a yearly pilgrimage to either Colorado or New Mexico to hunt mule deer. Growing up on the Texas coast, duck and goose hunting also became a way of life. Back at the lodge, Steve might just spin a yarn or two about his fishing adventures in Alaska, Canada or Mexico. It's just part of being a professional outdoor writer. Steve's weekly column, Out in the Ozarks can be read in the outdoor section of each Thursday's Springfield News-Leader. He also writes for a number of magazines including Texas Sporting Journal, Bassmaster and Ozarks Monthly. Visitors will also appreciate Steve's cooking skills.
Cory White was just a tike when his grandfather first sat him down against a tree and started calling turkeys. Now, almost two decades later, Cory is well known in Southwest Missouri for his ability to call turkeys. He brings his contagious smile and energy to Pro Outfitters each spring, driven to put turkeys within shotgun range of his clients. But don't ask Cory about the turkeys he has killed, though they are many; he would rather talk about turkeys he has produced for others. Even before he came to Pro Outfitters, it was his annual ritual to call turkeys for others to kill; it's just his thing. But Cory is no stranger to the deer woods either. Just ask the client for whom he rattled up a nice buck for last fall - who by the way has already rebooked for next year. Cory is a fun guy at the lodge or in the field and Pro Outfitters is proud to have him on the staff.
Jim Melloway has been hunting and fishing for over thirty years in Northern Missouri. Now at the young age of forty, he still looks forward to each hunting season as if it were his first. His love for the outdoors has taken him all over North America to hunt deer and elk as well as turkey and pheasants. Jim's love affair with the outdoors is what makes him such an excellent guide. Specializing in waterfowl, Jim is no stranger to a duck blind. This quiet, mild mannered guy can talk ducks with the best of them. Around the lodge, it has been said that Jim speaks to the ducks more than people. Jim's response was that the ducks listen, we don't. Jim also owns Wildlife Concepts Taxidermy. He mounts everything from waterfowl, upland game, North American game, and African game. Being a graduate of Wildlife Taxidermy Studio and having worked five years fulltime as a taxidermist, Jim can take care of all your taxidermy needs .For taxidermy services he can be reached at 816-587-2946
Brad Farren has been canoeing and fishing Missouri's Ozark streams with his Grandfather for over 20 years. Brad knows the local streams like the back of his hand. When he's not competitively fishing two different Bass Associations, you will find him guiding fishing trips on the Ozark stream. Brad says having the ability to fish the circuits also gives him an advantage as to what new gear is on the market and what new techniques work and don't work. When asked what gives him a bigger thrill, placing in the top ten in a big tournament or guiding someone on the river to there first trophy smallmouth? Brad says definitely guiding someone to their first big fish. There is nothing that compares to seeing the joy on someone's face or the memories and friendship that are created out fishing.
Chris Briley-aka triple B. When it comes to goose hunting, Chris is your man. I have yet to find someone as intense about Canadian Goose hunting or Snow Goose hunting as Chris. With over 20 years of goose hunting experience, there isn't much about goose hunting that he doesn't know. Whether it be calling large groups of Snow Geese over a decoy spread, or using the skills he was taught as a Marine to slip up on snows for a surprise attack, nobody works as hard as Chris to get his clients on birds.
Steve and Cory make fun of how fast Brad Gannaway moves around. The owner and operator of Pro Outfitters is a bundle of energy and hunting talent. He tirelessly works at providing the hunting trip of a lifetime for his clients. Brad cut his hunting teeth on quail. He and his stepfather use to go near their home in the afternoons when he got home from school. Today he is an accomplished deer, turkey and upland bird hunter, but hunting waterfowl is his first love. Talk of his calling skills are usually part of the evening conversation around the lodge. Brad is committed to providing quality hunts even when other duck clubs in the area are struggling. He takes it personal. Brad commands the respect of the area's other hunters and a trip to town usually involves inquiries form other on why he has been more successful than others. As host and chief cook and bottle washer, Brad is up each morning before anyone else and is still working when others are ready to turn in. During the off-season, Brad vigorously works at improving the quality of his trips by scouting and obtaining new properties, making improvements to the lodge and exploring new ways to satisfy his clients. Need anything? Just ask Brad.
